The KVB είναι:
Kat Day & Nicholas Wood.
Δεν είναι δύσκολο να είστε μία μπάντα δύο μελών; Ποιος κουμαντάρει την πίεση όταν είστε μαζί και ποιος είναι αυτός που παίρνει τις περισσότερες αποφάσεις;
Πως θα περιγράφατε τη δουλειά σας;
Η κίνηση για το Βερολίνο ήταν μία δίκαιη επιλογή;
Και ένα tribute και…
Kat: Πάνε 6 χρόνια που oι Τhe KVB ξεκίνησαν, 5 αν μετρήσουμε από το πρώτο live show και σε αυτήν την περίοδο παράγαμε 5 albums, 2 EPs (το ένα a remix EP) και συμβάλλαμε σε ποικίλες συλλογές.
Και ένα νούμερο από κασέτες… “Οι καιροί πάνε και έρχονται” κάποιοι λένε. Πιστεύετε πως ο καιρός της κασέτας μπορεί να επιστρέψει;
Υπάρχουν μεγάλες ή σπουδαίες ιδέες που βρίσκεστε και συνδέεστε;
Απογοητευτήκατε καθόλου όλα αυτά τα χρόνια;
Γνωρίζοντας πως έχετε συνεργαστεί με κάποιους σπουδαίους καλλιτέχνες, όπως ο Anton Newcombe / Brian Jonestown Massacre, Sonic Boom / Spaceman 3 κλπ, ποιος και με ποιον ήταν η καλύτερη;
Όσο αναφορά τις επιρροές σας στη ζωή; Ποια είναι η αγαπημένη σας έμπνευση;
Μπορείτε να περιγράψετε τη σχέση σας με την εικόνα, τα χρώματα, τα optical shows και το visual art;
Γνωρίζετε ότι το Νικόλας είναι ένα συνηθισμένο όνομα στην Ελλάδα; Ξέρετε κάποιους Έλληνες;
Έχουμε έναν καλό φίλο τον Alex που κάνει απίθανη μουσική ως ‘In Trance 95’ και κυκλοφόρησε με τη New York label Minimal Wave Records (εμείς κυκλοφορήσαμε το ‘Immaterial Visions’ στην αδερφή label ‘Cititrax’).
Τα σχέδιά σας… Έχετε κάποιο tour μετά την Αθήνα, έτσι δεν είναι; Είναι ακόμα αυτό το γεγονός ένα ενθουσιώδες συναίσθημα;
***ENGLISH VERSION:***
Hello and nice to meet you! I’ m working for rockinathens.gr and I would appreciate it if you (kind of) helped me see through you… so here are some questions and spaces for you to fill.
First of all, a Happy Music Year! The KVB are:
Kat Day & Nicholas Wood.
Isn’ t it difficult to be a two member group? Who handles the pressure when you are together and who is the one taking the most of the decisions?
Kat: Completely the opposite, it’s easy! We take decisions together, not one of us in charge and work is split 50:50. Being a couple means we can be honest with each other and because we are so connected, we understand what the other is trying to say. It’s probably the best situation to be in.
How would you describe your work?
Nick: We generally tend to leave describing our work to other people… we just try to make music & art that we like and are happy with and let that speak for itself.
Was your movement to Berlin a fair choice?
Nick: We decided to move to Berlin in 2014, as we wanted to escape the costs of living in London, so we could spend more time on our work. It’s not a permanent move, but it’s been a good one for us so far, creatively.
So far how many albums and EPs? There is also a tribute you participated and…
Kat: It has been 6 years since the KVB started, 5 if you count from the first live show and in that time we have produced 5 albums, 2 EPs (one being a remix EP) and contributed to a variety of compilations.
And a number of cassettes… “Times come and go” some might say. Do you believe that cassette time may come back?
Kat: Maybe, people still have an affinity for the medium and at the moment it’s a good way to get music out, as it is cheaper to produce than vinyl, relatively fast and holds a nostalgic essence.
Are there any big or great ideas you find yourselves connected to?
Kat: We are interested in phenomenology and consider ourselves an Audio Visual project rather than purely a band. Both aspects are equally very important to create an immersive, hypnotic atmosphere during our live shows.
Are you any disappointed among all these years?
Nick: Not at all, considering the project started out as a bedroom recording project with no plans for live shows or releasing records, I’m very happy with how things have progressed over the last 6 years and feel lucky that we’ve been able to travel to so many different and inspiring places such as Asia, Australia and all over Europe.
Knowing that you have collaborate with some great artists like Anton Newcombe / Brian Jonestown Massacre, Sonic Boom / Spaceman 3 etc, which and with who was your best one?
Nick: It’s been a great honour to get the chance to work with people who have been and still are an inspiration to us! We couldn’t pick a best one, as they have all been different experiences, but throughout our collaborations we have always tried to do our own thing.
What about your influences in life as well? Which is your favorite inspiration?
Kat: Our main inspirations come from music, art and cinema. To name a few: bands such as, Cluster, Fad Gadget and Love, directors such as Peter Strickland, Ben Wheatley and Dario Argento, artists such as Ed Atkins, Pipilotti Rist, Eva Papamargariti and many more!
Can you describe your relationship with the image, colours, optical shows and visual art?
Kat: I studied Art at Goldsmiths University in London and focused my research into video art and interactive installations and was in my final year when I met Nick. My practice has always been concerned with the affect of AV on the audience and the connection between the body and the screen and also how the haptic visual projections can be interpreted as tactile material by the brain. My visuals tend to involve animating architecture, reprocessing nature and textured glitches via software, screens and machines.
Are you aware that Nicholas is a common name in Greece? Do you know any Greek people?
Kat: Yes, we have played Greece a few times in the past, but haven’t been back to Athens in over two years. We have a good friend Alex who makes great music as ‘In Trance 95’ and released on the New York label Minimal Wave Records (we released ‘Immaterial Visions’ on its sister label ‘Cititrax’). Also one friend, Antonis, who took us to his Dad’s beautiful seafood restaurant just outside of Athens, aptly named ‘Nikolas’.
Your plans… You are on a tour after Athens, aren’t you? Is that fact still an exciting feeling?
Kat: We are staying in Athens a few days, because we love the city so much. The week after we will play a show in Germany and then the next day we will embark on our debut tour of Latin America, which we are so excited about!
Thank you for your time and your sharing aspects with me.
