Γεια χαρά και καλώς ήλθατε στο RockinAthens.gr! Σε τι φάση σας πετυχαίνουμε αυτό τον καιρό;
Η ιδέα για τη δημιουργία της μπάντας σας ήρθε πριν περίπου 15 χρόνια. Θα μπορούσατε να συνοψίσετε σε μία φράση την όλη σας εμπειρία ως τώρα;
“Antimatter”, λοιπόν. Πώς γεννήθηκε η ιδέα γι’ αυτό το όνομα; Υπάρχει κάποιο κρυμμένο νόημα μέσα σε όλο αυτό;
Στις 23 Σεπτεμβρίου πρόκειται να κυκλοφορήσετε δύο cd singles. Θα μπορούσατε να μας πείτε λίγα πράγματα γι’ αυτά;
Φυσικά, το πρώτο είναι το “Welcome To The Machine”, το οποίο είναι μια “προσέγγιση” του κλασικού τραγουδιού των Pink Floyd που έκανα πριν καιρό. Το άλλο single ονομάζεται “Too Late”.
Την περασμένη χρονιά κυκλοφορήσατε το “The Judas Table”. Τι εισπράξατε από τον κόσμο μέχρι στιγμής γι’ αυτό;
Δεδομένου του τελευταίου σας album, αυτό τον καιρό βρίσκεστε σε περιοδεία επισκεπτόμενοι πολλά διαφορετικά μέρη σε όλο τον κόσμο. Πώς είναι τα πράγματα μέχρι στιγμής;
Προσπαθώ απλά να φανταστώ πως τα “The Weight Of The World”, “Epitaph” και “Too Late” θα ακούγονται με βιολί, βιόλα και τσέλο.
Σύντομα, θα επιστρέψετε στην Ελλάδα μετά από τρία χρόνια για δύο συναυλίες σε Αθήνα και Θεσσαλονίκη. Τι να περιμένουμε από εσάς;
Υπάρχουν άλλα σχέδια για το μέλλον;
Αμέσως μετά το τέλος της περιοδείας, θα επικεντρωθώ στην ολοκλήρωση του debut DVD της μπάντας, “Live Between The Earth & Clouds”.

***ΕΝGLISH VERSION:***
Hello and welcome to RockinAthens.gr! How is the band these days?
All is good, things are busy, just the way I like it. I have plans that will keep me going constantly for the next 12 months, which is a good thing for me as when I lose momentum I kinda start to get depressed.
You came up with the band more than 15 years ago. Could you conclude in a phrase your experience by now?
It’s been a learning experience. And I’m still learning.
So, “antimatter”. How did you guys come up with this name? Is there a hidden message in it?
For the first three albums Antimatter was myself and Duncan Patterson, before Duncan left in 2005 to go on to form Ion, and I went on to record and release ‘Leaving Eden’ alone. It was Duncan who came up with the name, he had been handed a flyer for a dance night called ‘Antimatter’ and he thought it would be a good name for the project. At the time I had suggested we be called ‘Absolution’, (this is before the Muse album of the same name). Duncan insisted on Antimatter and that was history. I like the connotations behind the name, it suggests to me the darker elements of reality, madness, death, the other side.
On September 23th you ‘ll be releasing two cd singles. Could you please tell us a few things about it?
Yeah, the first is ‘Welcome To The Machine’, which is an Antimatter treatment of the classic Pink Floyd song that I did a few years ago. We have been playing it live for a while now and the audience are always asking why they cant get hold of a recording of it, now thats changed haha. The other single is ‘Too Late’, the song I released digitally in 2014, which again people have been asking for physical copies for a while. Both releses come with two B-sides. Its good to be using my record label Music In Stone again after a while, it feels good to have a bit of independence again.
Last year you released “The Judas Table” album. Which is the feedback that you get for it?
It seemed to go down really well, almost all of the reviews I saw were overwhelmingly positive, and the promovideo for the track ‘Stillborn Empires’ was a huge success… the lads from Tomfoolery Pictures in Liverpool did a great job on that. I still cant beleive how good it looks. I had the outline of the pig/businessman character in my head who would disrobe and have a lapdancers body underneath, and Owen from Tomfoolery took that and ran with it to great lengths, coming up with a whole shooting storyboard and various other imagery mixing the profiteering business world with sexual allure. I’ll certainly be working with those guys again.
So, given your last album, these months you are on the road visiting lots of different places worldwide. How is the tour going so far?
I formed the live band a few years ago to be able to go out and play the tracks from the albums with complete authenticity, and things are very healthy, very busy. In autumn we have four different sets to play with four different line-ups, so just keeping up with that is intense. One of those sets includes us performing in Kiev with a string quartet, which has got to be the ultimate Antimatter gig. Im just trying to imagine what ‘The Weight Of The World’, ‘Epitaph’ and ‘Too Late’ will sound like with violin, viola and cello…
Soon, you ‘ll be back in Greece after three years for two live shows in Athens and Thessaloniki. What shall we expect from you for those two nights?
We will play electric in Greece for the first ever time, so Im looking forward to that. Its like unfinished business for me, as up until now our Greek performances have been exclusively acoustic. I can’t wait to some back to be honest!
Any other plans for the future?
After touring is finished Im moving straight onto completing the debut Antimatter DVD ‘Live Between The Earth & Clouds’. I had been saying for a while that I wanted to capture the live band that the stage it was in, and the opportunity came up at De Boerderij, Netherlands, earlier this year. Audio will be produced by Daniel Cardoso and myself while Tomfooler Pictures (who did Stillborn Empires) will be involved in the cutting and production of the video. Im very much looking forward to this. Then theres also the small matter of getting to work on the 7th Antimatter album…
Thank you very much for your time! See you soon! The last words are all yours.
Keep up with us at facebook.com/antimatteronline… Cheers!!!
